Why the name Scratch and Dent?
It's a metaphor! (Go figure). Unless of course I wanted my blog to be about literally putting fingernails to flesh and kicking in car doors. To understand this concept, is to conceptually alter how we perceive ourselves and to view life through a lens of logic and reasoning. Simply put, we're different. We think differently, perceive things differently and often find ourselves on opposite sides of the proverbial spectrum. But it's in these differences where we all find common ground. We're flawed! Many of us wearing our imperfections on our sleeves. Most of us burying them deep inside only to have them reveal themselves seemingly at the most inappropriate times. Let us first define the meaning of 'Scratch and Dent'. "A term used to describe an item that has cosmetic imperfections but the function of the item is not compromised". (Can you kind of see what I'm getting at?) Though we all see our fair share of adversity, making a conscious effort to not let these mishaps validate who we are or what we'll become is pivotal. Our worth is not determined by personal experience, but by our functionality on the opposite end of those personal experiences.
Why you? Why now?
That's a very great question Cameron, (pretending to be a hypothetical, interested reader). I am in no way an expert. I'm no genius. I'm no aficionado. Nor am I a Guru. But, what I am is a man that can admit that he's none of those things. Writing to you from a realm of personal discovery where I see who I am and where I'm going. I feel that should count for something. Especially living in a world full of charlatans wrapped in misnomers partnered with inconsistencies. A small dose of practicality can't hurt.
So I hope you enjoy as you share in this journey with me. Some of these topics WILL be controversial. Some may rub you the wrong way and some may even inspire you to pay me money out of your very own pockets. Who Knows!! But what will be a constant, is an authentic disposition contrary to and in spite of popular opinions. That's what this is all about. You, Me and our lives as Scratch and Dent.
